Merle Symes is the President and CEO of The Provenance Group, a firm that provides consulting services in the areas of strategy and innovation with a specialty focus in entrepreneurial ventures, M&A and technology transfer. In the entrepreneurial field, Mr. Symes works extensively with founders and management teams to create successful high technology ventures, both as independent companies and as corporate new ventures.

His work encompasses all aspects of new ventures including assistance with the development of business plans, financial models, intellectual property strategies, marketing plans and exit strategies. He also assists with activities such as fund raising, negotiating strategic partnerships and technology transfer. In his career, Mr. Symes has worked with numerous entrepreneurs and has evaluated several thousand new ventures and technologies. In 2010, a firm with whom Mr. Symes has partnered, Mobius Therapeutics, won the St. Louis Regional Business Plan Competition.

In addition to his consulting career, Mr. Symes has served as President and CEO of Ulrich Medical and in other executive positions in both the U.S. and Europe. As Vice President, External Technology for Bausch & Lomb, he established a process for locating and acquiring external technology that was recognized by the Corporate Executive Board as being one of the top five best practices identified in their research of major companies. Prior to Bausch & Lomb, he held positions in Wyeth, Monsanto and Dupont. He has also served on the board of directors of both public and privately held companies.

Mr. Symes has an MBA from the Wharton Graduate School and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology where he has been honored with their Distinguished Alumni Award and is currently serving on their University Advisory Board.
